How is Laplink PCmover different than standard imaging tools?Laplink PCmover is the first and only tool to give IT personnel full control over the ability to easily and automatically migrate installed software, user profiles, settings and data to a new PC without hardware or Operating System limitations. Imaging tools and other standard corporate PC deployment solutions cannot transfer the exact image of the user's "old" PC, instead opting to deploy the company's standard image and forcing the end-user to re-personalize, re-install, and re-configure their "new" PC.
Does PCmover allow me to select what Software, files, settings, and user profiles I want transfered to the new PC?PCmover provides IT personnel with the ability to select only the elements they wish to include and filter out corrupt files, file types, folders, and programs not in compliance with corporate IT policies. In addition, PCmover does not transfer Browser Helper Objects (BHO's) and toolbars by default, preventing Trojans and other malicious code that hi-jack a PC's browser from making it to the new PC.
My organization wants to move to a "virtual" PC environment. Can I use PCmover?Laplink PCmover fully supports migrations to a virtual PC environment. This allows organizations to migrate traditionally-managed desktops, laptops and workstations to virtual PC environments, enabling more efficient and effective desktop support for the long-term, without sacrificing end-user productivity and IT help-desk support resources.
| How is PCmover licensed?PCmover licensing leverages a "per migration" server-based activation model, with each migration triggered by a unique, configurable serial number. For Enterprise customers, Laplink creates a custom build of the PCmover software for each organization with an embedded serial number, allowing the migration workflow to execute seamlessly. Each time an "old" PC is upgraded, PCmover checks the serial number issued and reports the license usage over the internet to Laplink's activation server, allowing the migration to continue. PCmover also supports pre-activations for PC migrations that need to take place offline. Laplink PCmover is licensed to organizations in two ways: Standard Volume Licensing - The standard volume licensing option allows organizations to purchase and consume PCmover licenses for a pre-determined number of activations with no time limit. Each time an "old" PC is upgraded, the number of activations left for the serial number is reduced by one. The volume license issued to customers does not expire until all activations are used and as new versions are released, organizations will be able to continue using the serial number. As activations run low, new ones can be purchased and added to the original serial number issued for streamlined license management. Enterprise Site Licensing - The enterprise licensing option allows organizations to purchase PCmover enterprise licensing rights on an annual basis. For organizations that are interested in using PCmover long-term, multi-year license options are available for consideration. The standard enterprise site license option allows organizations to activate their enterprise serial number up to 1,000.
